This was the view from our back deck a few mornings ago... it was a stunner!
Boy, do we ever have fantastic sunrises here in November and December. Now, don't get me wrong, we have some beauties at other times of the year too, but it just seems like every other morning during late fall and early winter is downright exceptional. You know, the kind of scene that makes you believe in something, gives you hope, or just makes you remember how incredible our world is.
I'm sure there is a scientific reason for our beautiful fall and winter sunrises (like the tilt of the earth, or the amount of air circulation, or storm and cloud formations or something like that) ... I have no idea, I just know it's well worth it to get up early in fall and winter to see the sunrises. And, that's exactly what I do! Now that I'm a "farmer" and rise at the crack of dawn (or before the crack of dawn most days!), I'm able to experience most sunrises here.
Our property is pretty big, but the majority of our land is in front or to the side of our house. Whoever built our old farmhouse back in 1900 put it very close to the water (closer than you could build now due to set back regulations), so our backyard is kind of small, but has an absolutely fantastic view.
Looking out from the back of the house, you pretty much see water everywhere. The creek runs along the entire east side of the property and there is also a little marshy inlet the comes in quite a bit on the south side. I love this marshy area as much as the herons do!
This is our "creek" and if you travel down the creek about half a mile, you end up in the Chesapeake Bay.
