Gourd Art

Well, it's Christmas eve and today it's 65 degrees and raining here in Virginia. CRAZY! The one time of year that I'm really glad I live where there are four seasons (and where winter starts in December) is during the holidays. Boy, does 65 degrees make it really NOT seem like Christmas or what? Oh well!

I've been a bit of a slug lately and I haven't done much in the way of gardening. Granted, there's really not much to do, but I do still have turnips, carrots, and parsnips in the ground and expect to start pulling and eating those more often now. Of course, I'll be starting seeds inside soon and I'm planning to do a little winter sowing too. But, for now I'm quite enjoying this little break from the garden!

With all of my extra free time (ha! what's that?) I've been experimenting with decorating some of my smaller gourds -- from pyrography (wood burning), to dyes, and paints too. I even bought a Dremel and plan to try my hand at carving some of the thicker gourds too (although I haven't worked my way up to that yet & most of the larger, thicker gourds are still drying in the field anyway)! It's been lots of fun and I'll post more pictures once I have a few of them finished. I'm thinking of opening an Etsy shop!

Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful holiday and that Santa brings you lots of great garden stuff!
