Some days I think I should be a dandelion farmer.
I'm really good at growing them (a-hem) and they are quite beautiful in their own right ... much cheerier and better than grass, I think. And, because of their abundance and their long growing season, dandelions are often one of the most important food sources for bees.
Do you know that there are all sorts of things you can do with dandelions, too?
Most people know that you can eat dandelion greens (I wonder how many people have tried them?). Dandelions can be used in salads, stir-fry's, and even smoothies. But, did you know that you can use dandelions for all sorts of other things too like making soaps, infusing with oils, making dyes, tea and wine? Let alone being great for making fancy flower necklaces any girl (or hippie!) would love to wear, albeit temporarily.
My most favorite thing to do with dandelions, though, is to blow on the seeds and make a wish. According to folklore, blowing on the seeds of dandelions will take your thoughts and dreams on the wind to your loved ones.
Wishing on dandelions makes me feel like I am 10 years old again and the world is my oyster. And when you are far, far from being 10 years old, that's a very good thing.
When was the last time you wished on a dandelion?
