Our daylilies are really cranking out blooms now and the garden is awash in color. June and July are usually the peak months here for daylily flowers. The Stella d'Oro and Happy Returns are still blooming away like crazy, but so are many of our larger, colorful varieties. Yellows, oranges, pinks, purples, reds, white and what seem like unlimited combinations ... it's a veritable cornucopia of color!
The next daylily I'd like to show you in our tour is Inwood. Inwood started blooming a few days ago and will continue to bloom on and off throughout the summer.
Inwood is a dramatic daylily with a pretty picotee (sometimes called a pie-crust) edge. It's flower is a peachy-yellow color and it has a plum colored eye and matching ruffled edge. It is one of the more contrasty daylilies in my collection and makes a dramatic statement in the garden.
The flowers are quite large (about 6 1/2 inches across!) and it is slightly fragrant. It gets a ton of flower buds, as you can see in the photos below, and will re-bloom too. The plant gets to be 24 inches tall and has a spread of similar size. The flower scapes (stems) get to be about 36 inches tall. Inwood is hardy in zones 3 and up.
Depending on the light, the base color of Inwood's flower can look a creamy yellow or a pinky-peach. In some of my garden photos here, it looks more peach and in others more creamy.
Either way, it's a real crowd pleaser!!
