They're coming!! We saw our first hummingbird yesterday & I immediately dug out the hummingbird feeders and whipped up a batch of yummy hummy food.
We love hummingbirds and try to attract as many as possible in our yard. I usually hang two feeders outside of the large windows on the south and east side of our family room and another large feeder on the north side of the house. Yesterday, while watching television in the family room, we noticed a little hummingbird fly right up to where we normally hang a feeder and look around wondering where the heck the food was. I was half expecting him to peck on the window in disgust (this would be the hummingbird equivalent of tapping fingers on a desk), but he just looked around a bit and left. He returned about half an hour later and was pleased (I'm sure) to find a full feeder full of sugar watery hummy goodness.
Ruby Throated Hummingbirds (mainly what we have here in Virginia) spend winters in the area around southern Mexico and come back north in the spring to spend the summer. The males come first and strike out their territory and the females follow later.
Making your own hummingbird food is super easy -- 1 part sugar to 4 parts water (no food coloring, please). That's it! Easy Peasy.
Do you have hummingbirds? Just hang a hummingbird feeder and they will come!!
