The praying mantises are still around...
Just yesterday I found this big praying mantis clinging to the screen inside one of our porches. From the size of her abdomen, I imagine she'll start laying eggs soon.
After snapping a quick photo or 2, I immediately called my trusty insect and critter catcher (also known as my husband) and he gathered her up and took her back outside. We decided that it would probably be a bad thing to have her lay eggs in our porch somewhere (it's completely screened in), so she had to go.
Female praying mantises die a few weeks after laying their eggs, so I guess her days are numbered.
That's sad, isn't it?
