Although my Stella D'Oro and Happy Returns daylilies have been blooming for awhile now, some of the other varieties are starting to flower now too, so things should start getting much more colorful in our daylily garden!
One of my earliest blooming daylilies is Hemerocallis 'Hyperion' - an "heirloom" yellow daylily that has been around since 1925. It's a great daylily and a favorite among many gardeners. 'Hyperion' is a diploid variety with flowers that are about 4" in diameter. It's a pretty big daylily and can get up to 42" tall and 36" wide. It has long, elegant scapes (flower stems) that just seem to burst with canary yellow flowers.
An old time favorite, Hemerocallis Hyperion is a great performer in the garden and regularly produces masses of flowers with a sweet, sweet fragrance in late spring and early summer.
