We have a group of Mallard ducks that live in the upper, more shallow parts of our little creek. They especially like a little inlet right at the edge of our woods. My guess is that they spend most of their time there, although I've also seen them paddling down the creek, swimming under and around the docks and eventually out to the Chesapeake Bay.
The ducks pretty much want nothing to do with us, so the scene depicted in my print above is how I most often see them.

By the way, did you know that the Mallard duck is the ancestor of almost all domestic duck breeds? They can also fly as fast as 55 miles per hour. Oh, and only the females quack, the males make a quiet, rasping sound.
