As you may (or may not!) remember, we had a disastrous spring and early summer garden (here's the full story, in case you missed it). It was very, very disappointing.
After what seemed would be a fantastic season, all of our broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and lettuce was killed by the crazy amount of rains we received in early June.
So, I was very careful about making sure we had plenty of the brassica's to plant for fall.
OK, maybe careful isn't the correct word. The terms "anal" or "obsessive" might also come to mind.
Yes, I went a little crazy.
And yes, everything is growing very nicely.
And no, I don't really know what I'm going to do with 25 cabbages.
Anyway, here's a breakdown of what I planted in August and is growing in my fall vegetable garden right now ...
Broccoli (25 plants)
Cabbage (25 plants)
Brussel Sprouts (5 plants)
I've never grown brussel sprouts in the fall, so I don't really know if they are going to have enough time to mature or not ... they are just now starting to form sprouts.
Sweet Corn (about 50 stalks)
'Bodacious' is the variety we planted for the fall since it has such a quick maturation time. I couldn't resist including a photo of a little tree frog on a little ear of sweet corn.
We also have about 30 heads of lettuce, 30 basil plants, and 50 bok choy (yes, you read that correctly ... 50 bok choy! In my defense, I only planted 5 of these. The other 45 sprouted up on their own and I just let them grow).
Of course, we are still harvesting (pretty much every day) green beans, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, okra, swiss chard, zucchini and both summer and winter squash. We also still have watermelon everywhere. And we haven't yet started to harvest the sweet potatoes.
